Goodbye to Friends
By Marshall Thompson
Yesterday two members of the Eco Everest Expedition started the long hike out of the Khumbu Region. They will not be climbing Mount Everest this year. After making the journey to base camp, they both decided that it was too dangerous and there were more important things in their lives. Michel, one of the returning climbers told me that before he left for Nepal, his teenage daughter made him promise that he wouldn’t die. He teared up as he noted that she had a better grasp of the inherent danger of the situation than he did. But now that he was close to the mountain, he could see that he couldn’t risk his life when his children were depending on him.
After spending so much time together over the last week and half, it was hard to say goodbye. However, It was a brave and wise decision and we wish Serge and Michel the best of luck.

Lauren you are my hero! God luck and be safe, I’ll be thinking of you surrounded by white light.
